FAQ
| What is GEM’s commitment?
Greater Europe Mission is committed to God, the peoples of Europe, the Body of Christ
in North America, and the people of Greater Europe Mission. Our passion is to provide
every person in Europe with the opportunity to respond to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Our goal is to glorify God in all that we do, personally and organizationally.
Because of our commitment to build up the Body of Christ in Europe, we seek fellowship
and cooperation with like-minded churches, maintaining the unity of the Holy Spirit
in the bonds of peace. We strive to serve churches and believers in North America,
stimulating their commitment to world missions and encouraging their partnership in
reaching Europe for Christ Our staff members serve as credible and effective
representatives of Jesus and contribute to His cause in Europe.
Our leaders succeed in their principle task of assisting, enabling, and empowering staff
to be fruitful in ministry. We continue to develop ministries that are consistent with
Biblical principles and responsive to changing circumstances.

| Why Europe?
Europeans desperately need to hear the truth of Christ. Although North Americans' Christian
heritage began there, Europe continues to drift further away from those roots.
Many of the beautiful churches and cathedrals stand nearly empty. The people who do
attend are often simply fulfilling religious obligations or seeking blessings
from a priest—actions that fail to impact their lives or the condition
of their souls.
Over 750 million people live in Europe, and in most countries less than 1% are
evangelical Christians. Many people have accepted the idea that there are no
absolutes. Under communism, the people of Eastern Europe were expected to be
atheists. But the collapse of Communism and influence of post-modern thought
have created an unprecedented openness to spiritual issues and discussions.
The opportunity to touch the world for Christ through Europe has never been
greater.
GEM is devoted to investing in the lives of the peoples of Europe. Our desire is
to walk alongside them on a spiritual journey that leads them to accept Christ
and what He did for them on the cross. Frank O’Sullivan, a church
leader in Ireland, states, “If together we can reach Europe, then it is
possible that we will be able to influence the world.” As the strength of
the European Union increases, its impact around the world also expands. As we
reach Europeans with the Gospel, we will touch other parts of the globe.
Refugees and immigrants can take what they have heard back to their homelands
and become ambassadors for Christ!

| What are the lengths of service available with GEM?
EuroTeam: Two- or three-week trips involving construction/renovation,
teaching English, training in personal computing (Tip.com), distance learning
and eDOT (electronic discipleship, outreach and training), and more.
EuroQuest: Serve three months to one year with EuroQuest. This short-term
program allows you to experience another culture on a deeper level, get more
deeply involved in a ministry and learn more of the language. It is an excellent
way to investigate the possibility of a longer-term commitment to missions. You
can teach English, help girls transition from orphanages to the outside world,
work with our Distance Learning team, teach at a Bible institute or MK school,
start churches, disciple other believers and much more!
Short-Term: Serve one to three years cross-culturally. Opportunities
include all of the above as well as other types of service that require a longer
time commitment. Imagine the impact of giving a period of this length to service!
Long-Term: Give more than three years or make serving the Lord
cross-culturally your career. Contact us for more information or download an
application to get the process started.

| What does the leadership structure within GEM look like?
Greater Europe Mission has four Directors. Three are for the U.S., Canada and Europe.
Each works with a team of U.S. or Europe-based leaders. These teams come together
throughout the year to discuss issues and make decisions regarding the direction of
Greater Europe Mission. Our fourth Director oversees our eight Europe-wide ministries.
These are project based and not restricted to a particular country. Europe is divided
into seven regions and has six Regional Directors, each reporting to the Europe
Director. We also have U.S. and Europe-based Member Development personnel, with
Europe-based Co-Developers overseeing both teams.

| What’s next?
If you feel called to serve the Lord in Europe and are interested in serving with
Greater Europe Mission, contact us or fill out our online application. After your
application is processed and we have received your references, if appropriate,
you will be invited to attend candidate orientation. You may be appointed at the
end of that orientation. Upon being appointed, you will begin the process of
raising support. Prior to going to the field, you will receive more cultural
training and possibly language acquisition training.

| How would my work with GEM be funded?
GEM missionaries raise their own support. Upon attending candidate orientation
and being appointed, appointees begin the deputation process. We have a
full-time staff person dedicated to helping people through this process. You
will also receive training in this area during candidate orientation.
