How an eLearning center changed Tanya's life
By: GEM eDOT staff
Tanya and her nine-year-old son, Sasha, were opposites when it came to computers. Sasha had gained computer skills and loved playing games and drawing on computers; Tanya was totally intimidated by computers.
Tanya has worked at the telephone company in Zaporozhye, Ukraine for over 15 years. Though computers had been introduced at the telephone company several years before, neither Tanya nor her coworkers knew what to do with them! They had no idea how their work could be done electronically after having done it by hand for so many years. They didn't even know how to turn on the new computers!
Tanya and her colleagues were told to learn on their own to operate the computers. It seemed that her job might possibly be in jeopardy if she couldn't learn how to use this new machine.
One day, Sasha told his mother about something new in their neighborhood: computer classes at a nearby church. Tanya enrolled. Her first lesson consisted of turning on the computer. Just what she needed! Instructors patiently taught the class, and soon Tanya was using her computer at work. She was quickly classified as the expert computer user, and her coworkers started learning from her.
On weekends Tanya began following her son to church. She attended worship services for a year and then made the life-changing decision to give her heart to God.
Now Tanya encourages her colleagues to take classes at the computer center. She's seen what a difference learning computer skills has made in her life. More importantly, Jesus has made a difference in her life, and she has purpose and meaning for each day.
