History
The founders of GEM chose the name "Greater" Europe Mission because they envisioned the day when ministry would extend beyond continental Europe into Greater Europe--the countries that border the Mediterranean Sea.

Through the years, as more and more Muslim immigrants from the Mediterranean Region settled in Europe, it seemed natural and strategic to reach these people with the Gospel both in Europe and in their homelands.
In 2002, the decision was made to designate the Mediterranean Region officially as an area of GEM outreach and ministry. Since then, many teams have been sent to this region and projects have been established that help people and that serve as platforms for explaining the claims of Christ have been established.
The Mediterranean Region is truly one of the most challenging areas of the world in which to work, and yet opportunities for witness have never been more numerous. World events are drawing the attention of Christians from many countries to the Mediterranean Region like never before in history.
