Latvia, east of Sweden across the Baltic Sea (the Vikings came here!), is distinguished by hundreds of miles of public beaches along the Baltic coast. It is also distinguished by its mix of young and old. Centuries-old buildings built by Germans and Swedes, high-rise apartments built during Soviet days, and modern glass and steel structures stand side by side (a McDonalds is housed in a building built before McDonalds was even started!).

Latvian society is distinguished by its mix of young and old as well.  The countryside is dominated by old farms run by an older generation, and poverty and alcoholism are high. Riga, the capital, is dominated by a young generation working hard and leading their society by day, by night talking over coffee in countless coffee shops or dancing in countless night spots.

Latvians are a spiritual people looking for satisfaction in material things - mobile phones, luxury automobiles, new houses. Now many are leaving their homeland. But the ancient Gospel is finding its way into the hearts of some of these young Latvians. With us you can find out what God can do in this fascinating land . . .
