GoMarket gathering serves as a catalytic event for those looking to serve god through the marketplace

Businesspeople from various parts of the country came together May 29 and 30 to explore how God might use their and their corporations’ marketplace activities to expand His Kingdom. GEM hosted the GoMarket Gathering, which received favorable reviews from all 15 participants. Each expressed interest in serving with or in partnership with GEM in a marketplace capacity.

This was the first gathering GEM has hosted on this topic. GEM leaders invited a select, small group of friends to learn and discuss the potential for ministries through the marketplace in Europe, North Africa, and Turkey. The group had plenty of opportunity to interact, contribute, ask questions, explore possibilities, and learn from each other.

Several leaders with successful experience in cross-cultural work and ministry through the marketplace facilitated the discussions and shared lessons they have learned about:

• what Business as Mission and/or tentmaking is like in real life
• how to balance work and ministry and do what it takes to succeed at both
• how God can use you to make the greatest impact
• how to take next steps

What participants said:

“This weekend I’ve heard the Lord say, ‘You are not alone—marketplace ministry [in France] is possible!’”

“It was encouraging to interact with others who have a heart for the nations and want to live out the Gospel in Europe, North Africa, and Turkey—people who are looking at ways to use their background and experiences to impact the nations.”

GEM Marketplace Ministries plans to host gatherings like this in other places; plans are underway for an Atlanta gathering in August.
